Last night’s Super Bowl audience was a reported 109.7 million viewers. Though the numbers are still being tallied, it is an anticipated 3% jump from last year and the most watched game to date. While most tuned in for the game itself, a considerable amount also tuned in for the famous and sometimes infamous super bowl commercials. Spots that this year cost $3 million for each 30 seconds.
Along with millions of people, Tuesday night I too tuned in to watch the President give his State of the Union Address (it’s funny how even people outside of the US call him, “the President” – that’s for another blog entry!). As I was listening to President Barack Obama deliver a fairly encouraging speech to Americans – he caught my attention even more when he uttered this line:
…success is not a function of fame or PR, but of hard work and discipline.
Ever get that déjà vu feeling when you go through your routine of watching the evening or morning news? I do. So much so that I’ve actually cut out most of the news watching out of the tv time I do allow myself to have these days. While I still enjoy the banter of a few news analysts, I’m no longer getting my news just by watching television. The internet and more so, social media sites and updates helps me to be informed as events occur.
What exactly do I do for a living? That’s a question I’m guaranteed to be asked when I tell people that I’m a Public Relations Specialist. My usual response is, “I work with individuals and organisations to help them effectively communicate their messages to their publics.” Then comes the head nod followed by the squinting of the eyes moment and persons sometimes would say, “Oh you put things in the media.” This is often followed by my quiet smile and response, “That can be an output of other things I do.”
